Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary range: $122,366 - $143,960, 52 weeks per year position-full time.  Hours during summer and school breaks may vary, as determined by District administration

POSITION SUMMARY

Midland Public Schools is seeking an innovative, transformative, progressive, and collaborative leader for the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in a high expectation, high achieving 7000+ student school district. This position reports directly to the Superintendent and is responsible for all aspects of curriculum and instruction with the goal of excellence in teaching and learning to promote student achievement.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum Instruction, Educational Leadership, or equivalent  
  • Must meet or be willing to meet the State School Administrator’s continuing education requirements
  • Evidence of successful experience as a teacher
  • Knowledge of current education research and best practices
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, communications, and team building
  • Successful experience in planning and directing educational programs as well as budget management and development
  • Knowledge and skills in data collection and analysis, and data-informed decision-making

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational Specialist Degree or higher
  • Knowledge of and experience with organizational change models, implementation science, and program evaluation
  • Successful experience in a multicultural school district
  • Experience administering programs in one or more of the following areas: elementary or secondary education, state and federal programs, special education, or other specialized programs or areas

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Superintendent of CIA (ASCIA) is an executive position, providing administrative leadership to the district and schools. The ASCIA leads, plans, organizes, directs, supports, and evaluates district programs and activities in pursuit of student growth and achievement. Primary areas of responsibility and leadership include: educational programming; instruction; assessment; continuous improvement; multi-tiered systems of support; state and federal programs; professional learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; instructional technology; special education; and other related areas. The ASCIA will work collaboratively to support the district vision: Lead with respect, trust, and courage. Ensure an equitable, collaborative, and inclusive culture. Enable all to achieve success. The ASCIA leads the CIA team and collaborates closely with the superintendent team, principals, the administrative council, all staff, and the school community to meet the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with and provide leadership to the CIA team, principals, and all members of the MPS team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school improvement initiatives, including MICIP, as well as other matters related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, student achievement, and student wellbeing
  • Provide instructional and curricular leadership and guidance in planning, conducting, and evaluating studies in the areas of: curriculum and standards, teaching and learning resources, instructional practices, and professional learning
  • Lead all aspects of the district’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework with a focus on student academic achievement and wellbeing
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all matters related to local, state, and federal testing and assessment, and ensure the use of a comprehensive and balanced assessment system throughout the district
  • Provide leadership and support in the area of special education with a focus on student success and adherence to requirements
  • Provide leadership and support in the area of instructional technology and school media centers
  • Provide leadership and support for all matters related to state and federal programs and grants, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of budgets, activities, and programs. Work collaboratively with the district grant team, CIA team, and principals in this area
  • Provide leadership and support for the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and initiatives
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s professional learning plan using best practices
  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities related to administrative council and professional growth and learning sessions
  • Lead, support, and evaluate the CIA team members and other staff as assigned
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the CIA budget, including grants, in partnership with the CIA team and business office
  • Ensure work in all areas of responsibility and leadership align with the Board of Education policies, the district vision, and contractual obligations
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the superintendent team, Board of Education, administrative council, and other groups as requested
  • Engage in district, community, and state-level work groups and teams as directed by the Superintendent
  • Engage in professional learning opportunities as determined in the annual learning plan
  • Lead district-level projects and initiatives as assigned by the Superintendent
