Job Summary
Fitness Supervisors are a key factor for a safe and appropriate operation of the Fitness Areas located in University Recreation and UREC Nicholson satellite facility. The Fitness Supervisor maintains managerial responsibility and authority for the programs, facilities, and other student staff within Fitness Operations. Fitness Supervisors work in conjunction with the Team Supervisors – Aquatics, Adventure, Sport Programs, and Facility Operations to provide the customer service, conflict resolution and emergency response management for the patrons of the UREC.
Minimum Qualifications
Fitness Supervisors must maintain all academic requirements and be enrolled in six or more hours to sustain eligibility.
Customer Service:
· Ability to discuss equipment set-up, care, use, etc. with patrons and staff.
· Provide high quality of service through positive engagement with patrons.
Fitness Operational Skills (trainings provided):
· Knowledge of fitness equipment use, set-up, care and cleaning procedures.
· Understanding of injury prevention in the fitness area via proper spotting and clip policy enforcement.
· Understanding of proper equipment set-up including selectorized equipment, cardio machine, free weight/squat racks and ADA-accessible equipment in the All Access Line.
· Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Educational Skills:
· Ability to demonstrate proper usage of equipment to patrons.
· Ability to educate patrons on facility policies and procedures.
· Ability to monitor the job expectations and work procedures of up to (5) Fitness Assistants.
Responsibilities
General (50%)
· Ensure a safe environment for staff and participants and maintain responsible operations of the UREC facility and programs at all times.
· Respond to all injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures.
· Maintain familiarity with evacuation plans.
· Supervise the conduct and daily performance of Fitness Assistants.
· Enforce departmental and facility policies to ensure the safety of all users.
· Act as mediator in the event of necessary conflict resolution.
· Patrol Fitness Areas to ensure that activities are conducted safely and appropriately.
· Open, close, and secure Fitness Area at prescribed times and check for safety and maintenance concerns.
· Communicate maintenance, custodial, or security issues to UREC and/or campus personnel.
· Compile hourly user data and document all staff reports, facility issues, participant concerns, injuries, and incidents. Examples of other duties include but are not limited to:
o Collect and document lost and found items.
o Respond to door alarms.
o Assist in custodial and maintenance tasks for the equipment and facility.
· Represent the UREC in a professional manner and act as a UREC ambassador at all times with an extensive knowledge of the facilities, programs and services.
· Attend and contribute to all mandatory staff meetings, workshops, and retreats.
· Provide a friendly, inclusive, service-oriented environment for all staff and participants.
· Demonstrate awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity.
· Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers.
· Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
· All other duties as assigned as it relates to the experience of the position.
Team Supervisor Shared Responsibilities (25%)
· Attend Team Supervisor shift meetings.
· Attend Team Supervisor trainings held each semester.
· Attend trainings on Fusion, Cash Handling and Credit Card Usage.
· Communicate needs and expectations for shifts with fellow Team Supervisors.
· Provide Tours, assist with locker needs, and respond to customer concerns.
· Respond to and complete emergency-related paperwork for Accidents, Incidents, and Concussions.
UREC@Nicholson (25%)
· Monitor and regulate Fitness Areas and patrons within.
· Communicate equipment and facility-related concerns to professional staff.
· Enforce UREC Fitness policies to patrons.
· Support the Operations Assistant in membership sales and facility access.
Supervisor:
Fitness Supervisors are supervised by the Assistant Director of Fitness.
