Production & Design Intern - Fashion Industry

About the Internship

This is a for-credit, in-person internship based in New York City. We’re looking for someone who can join us on-site 3–5 days per week to gain hands-on experience working across two dynamic fashion brands — and assist us in preparing for our next fashion show.

Candidates are expected to understand that this role is dedicated to learning, gaining professional experience, and supporting our production teams while developing a well-rounded understanding of fashion production across different business models.

About the Brands

The Tailory New York is a rapidly-growing, innovative company that fuses modern fashion design with classic custom tailoring. We are the only custom clothing company that caters to men, women, and non-binary individuals in equal measure. Our concept is simple; we believe that everyone's wardrobe should not only fit perfectly but also be designed with only the individual client in mind. The end result? Clients get the best of both worlds: impeccable fit and custom-designed pieces that work seamlessly with their lifestyle.

SHAO is an elevated luxury streetwear brand that blends Shanghai 1930s glam with NYC edge. Since our explosive NYFW debut, SHAO has become a red-carpet favorite — seen on celebrities at galas, talk shows, and in TV/film. It’s bold, unapologetic, and designed to make a statement.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage end-to-end garment production, from custom pieces to ready-to-wear collections
  • Coordinate with vendors, factories, and internal teams to maintain timelines and quality
  • Source and track materials, samples, and patterns across inventory systems
  • Develop tech packs and standardized production specs for smooth execution
  • Monitor costs, production milestones, and troubleshoot operational challenges
  • Support fittings, quality checks, and documentation throughout the development cycle

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Business, or a related field
  • Familiar with garment construction, production workflows, and fabric/material specifications
  • Comfortable working with tech packs, measurement standards, and spec sheets
  • Proficient in Excel for tracking; basic skills in Illustrator for reviewing tech packs
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks
  • Speaking Mandarin is a plus
  • We’re a diverse, inclusive team — people of all genders, races, and backgrounds are welcome here

This internship offers hands-on experience in a dynamic, creative environment where you will gain valuable insight into fashion production across both bespoke tailoring and luxury streetwear. Join our team and develop a well-rounded skill set applicable across the fashion industry.
