Job Description
Lab Research Assistant (Part-Time, Full-Time, Saturdays)
Location: New York City (Times Square Area)
MediaScience® (www.mediasciencelabs.com) conducts marketing research for large television and media companies such as Warner Media, Hulu, CBS, Google/YouTube, and many more. We apply the rigor of experimental research to the evaluation of various media and advertising platforms using a variety of research tools and methods including psychophysiology, eye tracking, and surveys.
Position Summary
Research Assistants are key members of the data collection/fieldwork process. Each study at MediaScience is different. Research Assistants are responsible for preparing the lab equipment for human subjects to come participate, monitoring subjects while they participate, and reviewing data to ensure quality.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare lab equipment and computer programs for in-person research sessions, including software such as iMotions, SurveyMonkey, and Hark Connect, along with video players, eye-tracking tools, biometric sensors, and related computer systems.
- Moderate research groups of 2–8 participants, ensuring clear communication of session instructions and adherence to protocol.
- Manage session logistics, including greeting participants, guiding them through the process, and providing compensation.
- Operate both the research environments and front desk, including participant check-in and supporting recruitment efforts.
- Assist with recruiting and scheduling research participants from our private panel of 15,000+, as well as through outsourced recruitment platforms when needed.
- Contribute to lab upkeep by keeping testing rooms organized and sanitized, and maintaining common areas to ensure a professional, welcoming environment.
Skills & Qualities
- Strong computer skills with a willingness to quickly learn new tools and software.
- Proficiency in Google Sheets, including use of formulas and data organization.
- Confidence and professionalism in moderating small groups.
- Ability to manage multi-step tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
- A desire to learn about advanced research tools and somewhat interest in market research, media research, usability research, and/or biometric/eye tracking research.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or
- High school diploma and current enrollment in college (preferably junior or senior standing) or graduate school, with a relevant major or demonstrated interest.
Pay and Hours
This position pays $16.50 per hour. MediaScience is accepting applicants for both full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time schedules. The lab’s standard hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. However, this position will also require flexibility. Specifically, 2–4 Saturday shifts will be scheduled during October and November to support an upcoming study. Additional evening or weekend availability may occasionally be needed for special projects. Advance notice will always be provided.
