Program Manager

Program Manager (Work Study / Intern, two positions available)

Introduction:

The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh (BCP) is a member-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1934 that provides choral education, community and cultural enhancement programming, and performances for audiences throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. BCP is recognized as one of the oldest and most creative performing arts groups in the BCP service area, through its three “themed” productions each year; performances in historical, beautiful and non-typical venues; and music selections that highlight social, educational and historical subjects. BCP also holds a dedicated educational program in June of each year – this “Summer Sing” is open to singers of all ages and abilities, and BCP offers scholarships for people who cannot afford the program fee. The mission of the BCP is to perform innovative choral music for arts-loving audiences by presenting unique artistic experiences drawn from a variety of musical genres and diverse cultural traditions.

Position Description, Program Manager:

Since March 2023, BCP staff and volunteers have been working on a project to streamline processes involved in managing community outreach/engagement, the three choral productions performed each fiscal year, and the Summer Sing educational program (i.e., the “Season”). This project appears to be straight-forward, but it is composed of a multitude of tasks that change on a continuing basis because they often are reliant on community/business partners and supporters, stakeholders, vendors, and contractors.
BCP is seeking a Program Manager (PM) who will work with staff and consultants to create and support partnerships with local businesses and community groups; support the cultural and arts community of the City of Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania; and collect and evaluate information about community arts resources. Most of this work will be used to support development of the new “BCP Operations Manual,” which documents each of the Season processes. The PM also will support the logistics for the 2025-2026 Season based on a “Cirque du Cinéma” theme. This is a community-and-arts-based research, development and implementation position.

 Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Operations Manager (OM) to develop the new Operations Manual.
  • Coordinate with local community groups.
  • Design/create processes to be included in the manual, including final document design.
  • Help create templates for each of the operations processes and resource spreadsheets/databases.
  • Coordinate with BCP staff to maximize process efficiency.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with production logistics.
  • Assist staff in general grant writing activities.
  • Work generally will be performed remotely. BCP performances are held on weekends in November, February and May – ability to provide assistance at productions is preferred but not required.

Qualifications/Skills:


  • Experience or interest in Arts Organization Management, Community Cultural Development, Non-profit Management or a related field.
  • Good written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work remotely (in-person work is possible) and use Zoom for meetings management.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite (Microsoft 365).
  • Be able to multi-task.
  • Self-motivated / Detail-oriented / Creative.
  • Be enrolled in higher education. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply.

Work Hours/Time Commitment:

  • This is a full academic year position.
  • Minimum of ten (10) hours per week.

Benefits:

  • Hours worked may satisfy an internship or work study requirement for undergraduate or graduate students.
  • Learn about arts organization management.
  • Learn about non-profit management.
  • The opportunity to work within the vibrant and exciting arts community in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
