Position Summary
We’re seeking a dependable, friendly, and proactive Studio Manager to help us maintain a safe, inspiring, and well-run ceramic studio environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of ceramics, a welcoming and hospitable demeanor, and an organized approach to studio operations. This is a hands-on role that blends studio maintenance, member support, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities

Community Support & Studio Culture
- Greet prospective members and provide studio tours
- Answer questions about memberships, classes, and studio best practices
- Help onboard new members and foster an inclusive, respectful environment
- Greet prospective members and provide studio tours

Studio Oversight & Communication
- Help enforce studio policies and support member success
- Act as the point of contact when the owner is not on site
- Communicate regularly with the owner about studio needs, schedules, and member feedback

Kiln Operations
- Load, unload, and fire electric kilns (bisque and glaze) on a regular schedule
- Maintain firing logs and kiln safety protocols
- Monitor kiln health and perform basic troubleshooting

Clay Recycling & Studio Upkeep
- Manage clay reclaim system and keep recycled clay in rotation
- Keep studio workspaces clean, safe, and organized
- Track supply levels and alert owner when orders are needed

Glaze Management
- Mix, label, and maintain studio glazes in safe and consistent batches
- Ensure glazes are well-stocked, strained, and applied safely
- Troubleshoot glaze issues and maintain glaze test tiles

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in ceramics, including kiln firing, glaze mixing, and clay recycling
- Friendly, clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple studio tasks
- Able to lift 50 lbs and perform physical studio duties
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Availability on evenings or weekends is a plus
Compensation
Hourly pay range: $18–$22/hour, commensurate with experience. Includes access to studio space, materials discounts, and opportunities for creative growth.
