Communications Manager

Overview

New Voters is hiring a full-time, remote Communications Manager in our efforts to run 250 voter registration drives by December 2025, and our long-term goal to empower high school students to become lifelong civic participants. This position is expected to start mid-August. New Voters is looking for a driven, organized, and passionate leader with at least 2 years of experience in communications, marketing and/or PR. 


 

About New Voters

New Voters, a youth-led 501(c)3 that empowers high school students to be heard and prioritized in politics. Over the last eight years, our team of over 300 directors and interns have civically engaged tens of thousands of high school students across 500 high schools in 42 states. In 2024, we reached over 50,000 high school students and supported over 300 student-led voter registration drives. New Voters is a recognized United Nations Youth Solution and has been featured in CNN, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, NBC News, Bloomberg, HBO Max and Forbes. Our vision is that each of the 4 million high school students that graduate from US high schools each year register and vote in their first election, and continue to be lifelong civic participants.


 

Position Summary

New Voters is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and proactive Communications Manager to lead all aspects of external communication, public relations and digital presence. This role oversees a wide, but related, range of workstreams, including communications strategy, digital recruitment, social media, email marketing, press, website, communications partnerships, alumni engagement and intern management. The Communications Manager is responsible for stewarding New Voters’ brand across all platforms and to distinct audiences, including high school and college students, donors, alumni, partners and more. This is a high-ownership, high-output role ideal for someone eager to build communications infrastructure and drive measurable engagement.


 

The Communications Manager is expected to travel up to 5% of the time. This position is fully remote. This position is expected to start mid-August.


 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Communications Strategy 
    • Lead the strategic development of communications plans that increase the visibility and reach of New Voters’ programs, research, and resources. This includes (but isn’t limited to):
      1. Collaborating with colleagues across teams (programs, research, development) to coordinate messaging and meet deadlines for multiple simultaneous campaigns.
      2. Creating and executing multi-channel communications strategies (across all workstreams; social media, email, press, website, partners and advertisements) with measurable outcomes to achieve New Voters’ overall goals.
      3. Positioning New Voters as the leading voice on high school voting, expanding our brand, audience and reach both locally and nationally.
      4. Monitoring performance across platforms to adapt strategies in real time.
  2. Digital Recruitment
    • Recruit 200 students by December 2025 to sign up to run voter registration drives  through communications channels (social media, email, advertisements, partners, etc.) 
    • Lead all digital recruitment efforts for New Voters programs, including voter registration drives, research programs, mentorship opportunities, partnerships and team hiring.
  3. Social Media Management
    • Lead and grow New Voters’ and affiliated leadership social media accounts across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Twitter/Bluesky.
    • Differentiate content to suit platform-specific audiences and maintain high-quality, visually engaging posts (currently using Canva).
    • Conduct Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns, including setup, execution and reporting
  4. Email Marketing
    • Manage email marketing campaigns through Substack and MailChimp, creating segmented newsletters for different audiences (students, alumni, donors, etc.).
    • Lead the New Voters Student Network, our low-lift digital entry point (newsletter) for high school students.
  5. Press
    • Track news, social media and related activity in the youth civic engagement, voting and elections space to identify opportunities for New Voters to contribute to discourse.
    • Lead media outreach efforts by maintaining press lists, drafting and placing press releases and statements, managing reporter relationships, and preparing staff for interviews.
    • Secure coverage of local, student-facing, and national New Voters events, programs, and thought leadership
  6. Website
    • Coordinate edits to the New Voters website (currently on WebFlow)
    • Design new pages for the website as needed
  7. Partnerships
  • Establish and lead communications partnerships to achieve all communications goals (social media growth, press, recruitment, etc.)
  1. Alumni Engagement 
    • Lead strategy to engage alumni of New Voters to create long-term value for alumni/New Voters participants, and bring additional support to New Voters.
    • Manage a digital network of past student leaders and volunteers using social media and email marketing, including a dedicated Instagram account and LinkedIn group
  2. Intern Management 
  • Manage a team of communications interns (high school and college-aged), ensuring high-quality products and execution across all Communications priorities

Qualifications

A successful candidate will be highly organized, passionate, and driven. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate knowledge and passion for New Voters’ mission.


 

A candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • 2+ years of experience in communications, social media, public relations or marketing
  • Strong editorial judgment and attention to brand voice across platforms
  • Proven strategic thinking and ability to anticipate communications needs in a rapidly evolving environment
  •  
  • Experience with some or all of the following (in parenthesis is what we currently use):
    • Email marketing services (MailChimp, Substack, etc.)
    • Website content management (preferably WebFlow)
    • Social media platforms and management (Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Bluesky, Hootsuite)
    • Advertisements and application analytics (Google Suite, Meta Ads Manager)
    • Graphic Design (Canva)
    • Basic video editing skills


 

Preferred but not required:

  • Previous experience building out branded digital networks for groups of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with the United States voting and electoral process
  • Experience managing or mentoring interns or junior team members
     

Compensation and Benefits 

The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $62,000. New Voters is pleased to offer 100% reimbursement for monthly health insurance and dental insurance premiums, a fully remote workplace, and unlimited PTO. New Voters regularly conducts evaluations where employees may receive bonuses and promotions within the organization.

 

This role is subject to a background check to the extent permitted by law.
