I like how my employers treat me as an equal, and we all are very open about what we enjoy from our job. They understand that I am new to the scene and are willing to spend all the time they need to get me up to speed.
What I wish was different
I only just started a week ago, so I cannot give a comprehensive assessment on that yet.
Advice
Keep your cool and show them you belong, because you will have run-ins and assignments with some well-known anchors and news personalities, and you want to make a positive impression by treating them with respect like a normal human and not as much like they're a major A-list celebrity.
-Be open about what areas you want to pursue
-Always ask about opportunities available

Sales Planning & Content Management Intern
June - August 2022 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
My manager was great and I loved the work that I did. It was aligned with what I want to do as a career and my team let me take full ownership of pitch decks. I was also paired with a mentor who was very helpful in connecting me to other execs!

What I liked
I genuinely loved getting to know the professionals at NBCUniversal. My teams have been filled with inspirational professionals who are so willing to support me and give me opportunities to grow and learn something new.
What I wish was different
My internship at NBCUniversal has been remote since June. I am beyond grateful that I was given lots of resources, such as a company laptop or a reimbursement form to buy office supplies at home, I would have prefered to go into the office.
Advice
Lean into the experience. Whether you get "big" or "little" projects, all are opportunities to learn and develop new skills.

Intern events
Social events

What I wish was different
For a digital internship, it was super informative of the different systems used by the company. But I wish I could have had a more immersive experience in understanding why the company has and enforces certain protocols and regulations.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and point out problems in existing systems. You never know, it might actually help them identify and fix a bigger issue.

Development Intern
January - May 2020 • Universal City, CA
What I liked
I loved the environment, I felt very connected to the team and included.
What I wish was different
I would have liked to have the entire semester in person, due to COVID it moved to remote, but I still really enjoyed my remote experience

Always communicate with your supervisors. If you have questions, try to avoid reaching out to your bosses first, and talk to some other interns or people around you to work it out yourself before bothering the busier people.

Photography Intern (Virtual)
June - August 2020 • Universal City, CA
What I liked
The NBCUniversal Internship Program provided its virtual interns with a memorable and educational experience despite the program being remote. They held many seminars, panels, and fun activities for interns to participate in over the summer. Personally, I was fortunate to have a supportive, welcoming supervisor and a team who provided me with engaging tasks and meetings with high-profile company employees. I gained invaluable knowledge about the entertainment industry from my short time with NBCUniversal that will benefit me throughout my future career.
What I wish was different
I mainly wish the program would have been in-person. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer program was moved to a remote setting. I was extremely disappointed, as I was greatly anticipating spending the summer in Universal City, CA and working in the NBCUniversal office. Other than this, I would not have changed anything about my internship.
Advice
Try to schedule as many informational meetings as possible. With your company email address, you have access to the entire NBCUniversal employee directory to reach out and connect with people; don't be afraid to send emails that could possibly create name recognition/familiarity. Connect with your fellow interns on LinkedIn or social media, as they could become valuable connections (and even friends!). The internship program is meant to learn new skills, build a network, and prepare students for their careers; take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you while you can.

Publicity Intern
September - November 2020 • Universal City, CA
What I liked
Everyone in the department was extremely nice and open to helping in anyway they could - offering advice, answering questions, including interns in different events & projects, scheduling informationals. Every project and assigned task always had a purpose and was very engaging.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship was longer, but during these unprecedented times, it's completely understandable.
Advice
Take advantage of every opportunity and get to know the people you work with - fellow interns and staff alike. Don't be afraid to reach out and build those connections!
